Before the Fiji Medical Council can approve the Temporary Registration of medical practitioners not normally resident in Fiji, for the purpose of conducting medical consultations and/or services outside established Ministry of Health facilities, the following information must be supplied, in addition to the duly completed applications for registration submitted (with supporting documentation) by the individual practitioners.
- Name of sponsoring person/agency in Fiji
- A full schedule of the work plan, including date(s), place(s), nature of clinical services to be offered.
- Plans for assisting the communication between doctors and patients, especially if the visiting doctor does not have fluency in English
- Endorsement of the plan by a suitable established medical practitioner, who will be involved throughout the duration of the clinical programme
- Endorsement from the appropriate Ministry of Health agency; usually the relevant Divisional Medical Officer.
Visiting Medical Practitioners [List of Existing Medical Practitioners]must maintain records of consultations as follows:
- Registers must be kept of the patients seen, recording
- the date and place of the consultation;
- name and address of the patient;
- patient’s PIS number if available;
- the name of the attending doctor
- the diagnosis
- Each patient seen must be supplied with a card/paper, setting out
- their name, and adequate ID ( eg address/koro dina, or PIS card number)
- the date and place of consultation
- the name of the attending doctor
- the diagnosis, and advice,
- and all treatment given to the patient.
