WHO donates equipment

THE Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services yesterday received much needed equipment from the World Health Organisation that is going to be put to good use in helping ensure efficient service from the central drug shop.

The Ministry of Health as per its Strategic Plan is focusing on upgrading services at its Hospitals and Health Centers, a part of which focuses on improving the provision of Pharmacy Services at these Centers.

One of the issues of focus for Pharmacy Services has been computerization and physical upgrade of the facilities at Hospitals and Health Centers to make it more efficient in terms of delivery of services to cater for the increasing demand seen over the years.

On the same note Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services is looking at ways to upgrade our Institutional Pharmacy Services that are provided from these centers.

WHO was approached to provide assistance in these areas and their help included the following items that will be distributed amongst 15 Hospitals and Health Centers throughout Fiji:

Computers, Label Printers, A4 Printers – this will greatly assist Ministry of Health’s plans to computerize the Pharmaceutical Services in smaller centers to improve efficiency of services and better utilization of Human Resources for provision of clinical services

Fridges and Air Conditioning
To upgrade medicines storage conditions at 3 identified centers that would be stocking medicines requiring controlled temperatures

Office Cabinets/Filing Cabinets
To assist in efficient record keeping and maintaining of records as per professional and inventory control requirements for Pharmaceutical products

Reference Books
This is to upgrade current reference books at all health facilities to meet the legal and professional requirements of a Pharmacy and for day to day reference as well as continuing education and development of staff.

The initiation of computerization of services at these identified centers is a positive step towards upgrading Pharmaceutical service provision, mostly servicing of outpatient prescriptions and inpatient medication orders, at smaller hospitals and health centers.

The Ministry would therefore like to acknowledge WHO’s continuing assistance, and would like to express it’s heartfelt thanks to WHO for the timely donation.

This is an amazing video. I have many nioghbeurs in Northeast London who are WOTCH clients. They have shared this with me. I have tried to educate myself about WOTCH but I have to say that this video did more than my prior efforts on the web site. I would also like to say that I am aware of the work that the late Dr. Harold Mountain did with others to get WOTCH started. My condolensces go out to Dr. Mountain's family and friends. He was an amazing man who has left an amazing legacy in WOTCH.
