Capital Projects

 

CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT for 1999

Major Projects:

1.   Vector and Virological Control Unit

The construction of new vector control unit at Tamavua by PWD has been completed and was handed over to the Ministry of Health on 2.11.99. The official opening of this building was done by the WHO Regional Director on 2nd December,1999. This new complex has been named “MATAIKA HOUSE” and will provide National Scientific Services for Virology and Vector Borne Diseases.

2.    Wainibokasi Health Centre

The construction of New Wainibokasi Health Centre at Wainibokasi in the Rewa Sub-division has been completed by PED and handed over to the Ministry of Health. The complex will be officially opened in January 2000 . This modern Health Centre will provide range of services such as general Outpatient Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Family Planning, Dental, Environmental and Nutrition services. This new facility will provide services such as dental, laboratory services, x-ray services, health promotion, MCH, dietetics and enviromental health services.

3.    New Levuka Hospital

The construction of New Levuka Hospital commenced in January 1999 and is due for completion in February, 2000. This 40 bed new hospital is the replacement for the old hospital. This new facility will provide services such as in-patient and outpatient services, dental, laboratory, x-ray, MCH, dietetics and enviromental health to the people of Levuka and neighbouring Islands.

 

Minor Projects:

1.    Fulaga Nursing Station

This project involved the construction of a new Nursing Station, which has a separate grade 6 quarters for the Nurse and a new Clinic with delivery suite. This project has been completed and is in full operation now.

2.    Moce Nursing Station

The construction of the clinic and the nurses quarters have been completed and the nursing station is now in full operation.

3.    Baulevu Nursing Station Quarters

The construction of grade vi quarters for the nurse has been completed and the construction of the clinic is in our priority list for the year 2000.

4.    Sigatoka Hospital Private Ward

The construction of the private ward at Sigatoka Hospital which was funded by the Sigatoka Hospital Board of Visitors has been completed. The extension has been officially opened and is in operation. This extension will provide intensive care services to the people of Sigatoka.

 

CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE YEAR 2000

Major Projects:

1.    New Nadi Hospital

This project involves the extension of the existing hospital from 54 beds to 80 beds. The construction of this hospital will commence in early January 2000 and is expected to complete at the end of the year. This new hospital will have modern facilities and will provide most of the services currently provided from the old hospital and will also have private wards.

2.    New Vunidawa Hospital

This project involves the construction of new hospital to replace the present facility which is in a depleted state. The new facility will provide inpatient and outpatient services, dental, laboratory, x-ray, health promotion and enviromental health to the people of Naitasiri Sub-division.

3.    New Nasinu Hospital

The main purpose of this new facility is to ease the burden now experienced with the Valelevu Health Centre and the CWM Hospital. The Suva-Nausori corridor been the centre for the highest population growth.

Minor Projects:

  • Kabara Health Centre Upgrading
  • Udu Nursing Station Upgrading
  • Nadarivatu Health Centre Upgrading
  • Naulu Nursing Station (extension of the existing facilities to replace old building).
  • Relocation of Naweni Nursing Station.
