In brief the PATIS system registers
individuals on a computer system who have an occasion of service at
a hospital, health centre or nursing station. All persons registered
receive a unique National Health Number. Patients 15 years old or greater
are issued with a National Health Card. Information is recorded at a
patient, facility, village, nursing zone, medical area, sub-division
and divisional level. Information can be retrieved, where appropriate
at each level.
The principal
objectives of PATIS are:
- Improve patient services and
outcomes,
- Improve overall patient and
facility management,
- Assist health service administration,
and
- Collect information for timely
public health surveillance and health service monitoring.
PATIS will
enable the MoH to:
- Evaluate the use of health
services by the population e.g. age/ sex/Mortality
- Consider how geographic location
of the population may impact on the need for health services
- Evaluate the effect of socio-economic
factors of the population and the need for health services
- Commence working towards the
introduction of national service weights for surgical procedures
- Track patient flows from one
health service to another and between divisions
- Monitor the use of health
services by tourists. Each PATIS installation runs autonomously.
A server and a number of personal
computers (PCs) are installed on a Local Area Network (LAN) at each
installation. There is no direct connection between any of the LANs.
Each night all new, changed and deleted data from each installation
is automatically transmitted to all other PATIS installations.
PATIENT
REGISTRATION!
The National Health Card (NHC)
Everybody registered for the first time into
PATIS will be issued with a National Health Card (NHC). Please always
bring your card with you whenever you require any services from any
hospital or Health Centre. I doesn't matter which facility issued you
with the card. If you forget your card or your card has been lost, please
just inform the hospital staff that you have been issued with one already.
