Health care: smoking causes asthma and other respiratory diseases, heart diseases and cancer -who needs that? Looking after a smoker suffering from any of these diseases is costly, in paying for hospital charges, medication and care at home.
Loss of effective labour: a smoker can lose around 20 - 25 years of life due to ill-health or decreased ability to work or even die early.
Fire and accidents: misplaced- lighted cigarettes can cause house fire and accidents.
Early death: most regular smokers die prematurely. One in every two smokers dies from smoking related diseases. One in every four persons who breathe in other people's smoke (second-hand smoke) also die due to smoking related diseases.
Pain and suffering: is caused to the family and loved ones when the smoker suffers ill-health or dies prematurely.
