Fiji Successfully Chaired the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting 2019

Hon Dr. Waqainabete handing over Fiji’s gift to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland following the successful conclusion of Fiji’s Chairing of the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting

The Honourable Minister for Health and medical services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete successfully chaired the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting (CHMM) in Geneva.

Whilst opening the session the Honourable Waqainabete shared with the 53 Member countries of the Commonwealth family the spirit of ‘talanoa’ beside the traditional kava bowl in the Fijian context as essential to sharing health issues and challenges whilst at the same time deliberate on resolutions.

With that same spirit the Hon Minister called on the Health Ministers to work together and put their differences aside.

The one day meeting was attended by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland and the Director General of the World Health Assembly Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus. Meeting was concluded successfully with key objectives achieved.
