Health Staff given timely training on the prevention of infectious diseases

The Western Division health staff commenced a two-day training on Infection Prevention and Control in Nadi today as part of their preparedness to further the emergence of health threats and health services provided to the people in the western division.

The major objective of this training is to increase knowledge and skills in the principles and practices of surveillance, logistics, audits, waste management and networking.

Furthermore, it is also envisioned to build capacity in the appropriate application of the infection control practices in their different fields and programs during normative times and also during emergency response.

With the continued occurrence of infectious diseases that can be transmitted nosocomially like COVID 19, monkeypox, cold and flu, it is imperative that the frontline health workers are equipped with the knowledge and skills to empower them to carry out their duties effectively and also better protect themselves and patients against healthcare-associated infections.

This training will further benefit these front liners after their 3 days of training in Data Management at the Fiji National University conducted earlier. It will strengthen the proper utilization of data through surveillance that will allow early recognition and rapid response to any surge of infectious disease.

The Health Ministry continues to reshape and improve the provision of health services to the entire population of the country thus training of this nature becomes absolutely vital.

The two pieces of training are initiated by the Incident Management Team of the Health Ministry and are financially supported by the World Bank.
